Apply dormant oil spray on fruit and shade trees before new growth begins to prevent insect infestations. This is especially important on your fruit trees and Magnolias. Ensure that temperatures are above freezing for several days beforehand.

Start vegetable and herb seeds indoors. Start with onions and as the month progresses start cool crop vegetables such as cabbage and broccoli. Toward the end of the month, start peppers and eggplant.

Prune summer flowering shrubs before new growth begins. Don't prune spring flowering shrubs like lilacs and forsythia, until after they are done blooming.

Mild March weather? Start working in your garden beds raking out straggler leaves and debris.

Sharpen mower blades

Apply pre-emergent weed killer like Preen or corn gluten to garden beds at the end of the month.
